Let's see, stuff I have learned:
Your herbalist CAN grow seeds from other villagers (if they send you seeds, or you buy them). It takes just as long to master them.
Your apothecary, tailor, blacksmith, doctor, and craftsman CAN all learn recipes/blueprints/pattern-books/etc from other villages.
It takes just as long to become good at making the items, and you are further faced with the difficulty of purchasing the materials.
Animal trainers must domesticate animals they find before you can move the pets to your inventory, or sell them, or breed them. HOWEVER, they can send a partially-domesticated animal, or one that is not domesticated at all, directly to another animal trainer. This could be a friend's animal trainer or another of your own villagers. The animal trainer they send to must have animal handler as its active career.
Your villagers can have 3 careers they are currently progressing in (possibly 4 if one is explorer, but that one does not gain progress). To learn a further career, they must unlearn all progress in one of their previous ones.
They can switch careers every two hours, counting "two hours" as when the site-server-clock becomes an even hour.
This means you could, at server time 1:01 take an explorer, explore all 20 times with it, change it to an herbalist, plant 10 seeds which need 1 hour to grow, harvest them at 2:02 or whatever, change it BACK into an explorer and explore another 20 times. But then you would be stuck as an explorer until 4:00.
Or whatever other variation you desire.
