Potions

I'm very new here and can't quite get the hang of making potions?
It seems, every time I add another ingredient, it says....not enough and I have to add more.
The problem is, every time I try to add more, it won't let me and yet I have plenty in my inventory?

Help please.

Every time you hit the prepare button it takes those ingredients from you.

For example if you have 25 garlic and you put in 20 garlic for a recipe and hit prepare, you are left with 5 garlic and will have to hit the banner for more in order to increase garlic for that potion again.

Thank You! I understand now, in fact I have managed to make 2 potions so far!
Now to find out what I do with them....
